Birth Sessions cover active labor and up to 2 hours after birth to capture baby's first measurements and family bonding time. Birth Sessions are all inclusive. BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
When should I book my Birth photography?
As soon as you have a confirmed viable pregnancy, please contact me to book your session. I have a limited availability of birth sessions I can take per year.
When do you come to the hospital/home?
I do my best to arrive between 5-7 cm or whenever your midwife states you are in active labor. Communication between your support partner and I is crucial for the timing of this.
What all do you photograph?
I photograph everything that I can see.
Do you photograph everything?
Everything! Even those amazing crowning shots. I would rather capture the moment and have you decide to remove the images than miss the shot and have you want them.
How long do you stay?
I stay around 2 hours after the birth to capture the first family moments and baby measurements.
Will you wait until I announce the birth before you post on social media?
Absolutely. Unless you request I post an announcement for you, all images will be withheld from social media until I have your permission.
Do you use flash photography?
I will occasionally use my flash if I can not get adequate shots with the available lighting. I do not use direct flash, but will utilize our surroundings to "bounce" light around the room.
What can i expect from you while i'm laboring?
In my birth sessions, I tend to be quiet and take on a "fly on the wall" approach, unless you want me to be more social, then I will happily talk to you and assist if you need.
Can I still get birth photography if i'm having a c-section?
Photography during a c-section is decided by your surgical team and anesthesiologist. I highly suggest getting permission from them before confirming your booking.
What happens if i have to have an emergency c-section?
If approved by your surgical team, anesthesiologist and yourself, I will follow you. If the emergency is dire enough to sedate you, I will not be allowed. I will remain in the waiting room until you and baby emerge and will follow you and continue the session.
